Platelet Rich Plasma for Vaginal Rejuvenation

What Is Platelet Rich Plasma Vaginal Rejuevenation (PRPVR)?

PRPVR is a noninvasive procedure that improves sexual health and experiences for women to improve their quality of life. PRPVR is also used to heal urinary incontinence in women. Patients who have undergone this treatment have reported increased ability to have vaginal orgasms, stronger orgasms, increased natural lubrication, increased sensation, improvements in urinary incontinence, eased chronic pain from childbirth, decreased lichen planus, and decreased lichen sclerosis

How Does PRPVR work?

For the PRPVR procedure the vaginal wall and clitoris  is injected with platelets that have been extracted from the patient’s own blood.   Blood is taken from the patient’s arm and the platelet-rich plasma in this blood is isolated using a centrifuge. The platelet-rich plasma is then reinjected into areas of the body listed above. Due to release of growth factors in the injected areas, the PRP process has been known to have restorative properties. Overall, the PRP promotes healing by increasing circulation through platelet derived growth factors that stimulate increased blood flow and vascularization, eventually leading to increased sensitivity. PRP techniques are also used to promote healing and stimulate treatments in sports injuries such as broken bones and muscular wounds.  A specific research study has shown that this treatment can improve female sexuality when the PRP is injected to the lower anterior vaginal wall.

There is no preparation required for this treatment. Prior to the injection, the areas receiving the shots are numbed leading to minimal discomfort. The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. Since there is no recovery time, patients can resume normal activity immediately following the procedure. It is up to the patient to decide how many shots they would like, although it is recommended to wait 8 weeks between treatments to observe and understand the effects of the first treatment before creating a long term treatment plan. It is important to note that the results can vary between patients as age, hormonal imbalances, and other medical conditions can influence the outcome of the PRPVR. Typically, full results are seen within 3 months of the initial treatment and most patients undergo this treatment every 18 months. Patients that undergo this treatment have reported little to no side effects or complications.
